Between July and October the Maasai Mara hosts the river crossings — a million wildebeest funnelling into the Mara River while crocodiles wait in the current. It is the most concentrated wildlife spectacle on the planet, and worth planning a year around.Kenya rewards year-round, though. Amboseli sets elephant herds against Kilimanjaro. Samburu holds the northern specials — gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra — found almost nowhere else. Laikipia’s private conservancies allow walking and night drives that national parks do not. Classic Big Five country, done privately.
