Jackal Adventures Africa (“Jackal Adventures”, “we”, “us”) is a safari tour operator based in Bwebajja, Kampala, Uganda. This policy explains what personal information we collect through www.jackaladventuresafrica.com and explore.jackaladventuresafrica.com, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and, for visitors from the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Enquiry and booking forms: your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, country, travel dates, number and ages of travellers, preferred safari and any message you write.
  • Booking details: once you decide to travel, we may ask for passport details, dates of birth, nationality, dietary or medical requirements, flight details and emergency contacts. These are needed to secure gorilla and chimpanzee permits, park entry, lodge reservations and transfers.
  • Communications: emails, WhatsApp messages and calls you exchange with our team.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics (with your consent): we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website, such as the pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and whether an enquiry was completed.
  • Advertising measurement (with your consent): we use Google Ads conversion measurement and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure the results of our advertising.
  • Essential technical data: our web server records basic technical information such as IP address and browser type to keep the website secure and working.

2. Cookies and your consent

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you Accept all or Decline non-essential cookies. Analytics and advertising cookies stay switched off until you accept, and we use Google Consent Mode so Google tags respect your choice. You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies in your browser. Please see our Cookie Policy for details of the cookies we use.

3. How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and prepare a tailored itinerary and quote.
  • To book and manage your safari: permits, park fees, accommodation, vehicles, guides and transfers.
  • To look after you during your trip, including in an emergency.
  • To take payments and keep accounting and legal records.
  • To improve our website and measure our advertising, only where you have consented.
  • To send you travel news or offers, only if you have asked us to. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We rely on your request and our contract with you (to plan and deliver your safari), your consent (analytics, advertising and marketing), our legitimate interests (running and securing our business) and our legal obligations (financial and permit records).

4. Who we share your information with

We never sell your personal information. We share it only where needed to plan and run your safari or to operate our website:

  • Safari suppliers: lodges, camps and hotels; the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Rwanda Development Board, Kenya Wildlife Service and Tanzania National Parks for permits and park entry; and airlines or charter operators for transfers.
  • Service providers: our website host, email providers, Google (Analytics and Ads), Meta (Pixel) and WhatsApp. They process data on our behalf or under their own privacy terms.
  • Authorities: where the law requires it.

Some of these providers are based outside Uganda, for example in the European Union or the United States. Where data is transferred internationally we rely on the provider’s contractual safeguards.

5. How long we keep your information

  • Enquiries that do not become bookings: up to 2 years, so we can follow up on your plans. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Booking records: up to 7 years, to meet accounting and tax obligations.
  • Analytics data: held by Google according to our account settings, at most 14 months.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • see the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is inaccurate;
  • delete your information, unless we must keep it by law;
  • stop or restrict how we use it, including for marketing;
  • provide a copy of your information in a portable format.

To make a request, email travel@jackaladventuresafrica.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to Uganda’s Personal Data Protection Office or, if you are in the EEA or UK, to your local data protection authority.

7. How we protect your information

Our website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. It runs on supported, regularly updated software behind a server firewall, and access to booking information is limited to the staff who need it. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

8. Children

Our website is not directed at children. We collect information about children only when a parent or guardian provides it to book a family safari.

9. Links to other websites

Our website links to lodges, partners and social networks. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
