Explore Rwanda’s Ancient Rainforest During the 7-Day Rwanda Primates Safari

The third day of your 7-Day Rwanda Primates Safari begins before sunrise with an early breakfast at Nyungwe Hill View Hotel. Today introduces another remarkable highlight of Rwanda’s incredible primate diversity. Nyungwe National Park protects one of Africa’s oldest tropical rainforests and supports thirteen recorded primate species. This rich ecosystem makes the park one of the finest destinations for Rwanda Wildlife Safaris.

Your experienced ranger guide welcomes the group at the park headquarters before providing a detailed briefing about chimpanzee tracking. The briefing explains trekking procedures, conservation guidelines, and visitor safety. Afterwards, your adventure begins along well-maintained forest trails surrounded by towering trees, giant ferns, orchids, and dense vegetation.

Chimpanzees move freely through the forest canopy, making every trek unique. Their energetic calls often echo across the valleys before visitors finally locate the family. Watching these intelligent primates interact naturally creates one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in Africa. Their social behavior, playful movements, and impressive communication skills reveal striking similarities to humans. Every encounter strengthens appreciation for Rwanda’s conservation achievements and reinforces why this 7-Day Rwanda Primates Safari remains one of the country’s finest wildlife holidays.

Following your chimpanzee encounter, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation before enjoying another exciting primate adventure.

Afternoon Colobus Monkey Encounter

The afternoon introduces the fascinating black-and-white colobus monkeys that inhabit Nyungwe Forest. These elegant primates travel in large family groups and display remarkable agility while moving through the forest canopy.

Unlike chimpanzees, colobus monkeys often remain visible for longer periods. Their striking black coats, flowing white tails, and graceful movements create excellent wildlife photography opportunities. During the walk, your guide also identifies colorful birds, butterflies, medicinal plants, and unique forest trees that contribute to Nyungwe’s exceptional biodiversity.

Bird enthusiasts may also observe turacos, hornbills, sunbirds, and several Albertine Rift endemic species throughout the forest. Every trail offers fresh opportunities to appreciate Rwanda’s extraordinary natural heritage.

The combination of chimpanzee tracking and colobus monkey viewing makes this day one of the most diverse wildlife experiences included within the 7-Day Rwanda Primates Safari. Visitors leave with unforgettable memories while gaining a deeper understanding of rainforest conservation.
